Stuff relating to where u at mindmap
Artist research
Brendan Fernandes - The Master of Form
The exhibition is described as an "installation and performance series by artist Brendan Fernandes that explores themes of mastery and discipline within the culture of ballet through the use of designed objects that enable dancers to perfect and extend iconic positions" - grahamfoundation.org
- Uses performance

- Is very elegant
- Looks quite minimal, even though there's a lot going on
María Magdalena Campos-Pons - IDENTIFY
"María Magdalena Campos-Pons works with her husband, saxophonist and composer Neil Leonard, to reinsert the black body into historical narratives"
"IDENTIFY pulls back the curtain of time to acknowledge those who are missing from the museum’s historical collections. Wealth, class, race, and gender often determined who could have a portrait made in the 18th and 19th centuries – this performance art series strives to make visible the invisible" - npg.si.edu
- Uses performance
- Promotes activism/protest for equality
- Relates to equality, which I passionately advocate
- Visually very interesting to look at, lots going on, stands out
Martha Mcdonald - Weeping dress

- I think its beautiful and really speaks to my gothic side
Heather Hansen - Physical movement translated into symmetrical charcoal drawings
"Splayed across a giant paper canvas with pieces of charcoal firmly grasped in each hand, Heather Hansen begins a gruelling physical routine atop a sizeable paper canvas. Her body contorts into carefully choreographed gestures as her writing implements grate across the floor, the long trails resulting in a permanent recording of her physical movements. Part dance and part performance art, the kinetic drawings are a way for Hansen to merge her love for visual art and dance into a unified artform" - thisiscolossal.com
- Uses herself/form/body to create art
- Creates a performance like routine while making
- Visually very satisfying to see the process and the outcomes
- Feels quite minimalistic and elegant
Victorine Müller- Performance art meets inflated sculptures
"swiss artist Victorine Müller has combined the disciplines of performance, sculpture, painting and sound for the last fourteen years"
"her presentations are very much oriented around a spiritual or emotional dynamism where her presence inside the air-filled creature often emits a tangible aura" - designboom.com
- Uses performance within the art installation
- Uses making to create the "set" in which she sits
- Uses lots of natural light on herself, but keeps the room dark, creating an effective visual sight
- I like that she is within her art piece
Laurel Nakadate
"Laurel Nakadate uses video, film and photography to capture her performances. Her protagonists are strangers, amateur actors or herself. Nakadate engages the viewer and her subjects in a complex relationship of desire, power, tenderness, trust, loss and betrayal"
"The staged situations combine voyeurism, comedy and awkwardness; her intimate and sometimes unsettling works deal with issues of isolation and the desire for connection, even if the circumstances are uncomfortable or complicated" - tanjawagner.com
- Uses herself/body/form
- Records lots of real life situations as well as some staged ones
- I like her because in lots of her pieces you can feel the emotion that she was going through at the point they were recorded
Gilbert and George
"Gilbert and George's approach to art has always been anti-elitist. Adopting the slogan ‘Art for All’, they aimed to be relevant beyond the narrow confines of the art world. Although they work in a variety of media, they have always referred to all of their works as "sculpture"" - wikipedia.org
- Uses their bodies/forms
- Uses lots of colour/has a very unique aesthetic

Known for their feminist protest art, they have fought the lack of recognition and inclusion for women in the art world. Today, the group still protests, speaks, and performs publicly, in art institutions and private galleries" - ruthmillington.co.uk

Potential title ideas
Ideas for the project considering the research:
- Similar to "The Everyday" from develop module, create a diary/log of my everyday life, using photography, video, sketches, writing, poetry, song, emotions, etc. Include performance by using myself and basing it around my life.
- Use models, myself and others, to show off my aesthetic/personality. Convey who I am, and what I like through means of others. Uses performance. Could create using video, photography, sketches.
- Use the body/form to depict mental health struggles and raise awareness. Incorporates an element of activism, relates to my own mental health struggles (especially of late).
Titles I could use:
- My everyday
- Tia Philpot - A diary (or simply just my name)
- The diaries of a choccy milk drinking goth
- The daily life of an arty student goth
- Spooky girl making spooks happen
- Depicting spook
- What I like, and who I am
